One Mac app, three voice jobs

Vord types what you say, takes notes in your meetings and reads text back to you. One app in your menu bar instead of three.

Download for MacWatch it work

Free for 14 days. macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel. No bot joins your calls.

A small fox with very large ears cups a paw behind one of them, listening.

Hold a key to write. Click once for meeting notes. Press two keys to listen.

Dictation

Hold fn, say it, let go. About a third of a second later, what you said is typed where your cursor is, in any app: email, chat, documents, that one web form that logs you out while you type. The demo below is scripted and does not use your microphone.

reply-to-ruth.txtSample

Hi Ruth,

  • Long thought? Tap space while holding fn to lock hands-free, or switch to tap to toggle.
  • Say um a lot? Optional cleanup drops the fillers and applies your "no wait, I meant" corrections. It is off until you turn it on.
  • Odd names? Add them once and Vord spells them your way, in any of 60+ languages it detects for you.

Meeting notes

You should never have to apologize for a robot in the participant list. Vord records on your Mac and captures both sides, your microphone and the Mac's own audio, so the other person is transcribed even when you wear headphones.

The fox, wearing headphones, writes in a notebook.
The fox is not on the call either.

Printer proofs

Title, speaker names and summary added by Vord

  • The printer delivers proofs on Friday morning if they’re signed off today.
  • Martin checks the PDF straight after the call; you’re sending it now.
  1. YouRuth, did the printer get back to you about the proofs?
  2. RuthThey did. Friday morning, but only if we sign off today.
  3. MartinI can go through them after this. Can you send me the PDF?
  4. YouSending it now. Thanks, Martin.
  • A call starts. Vord notices the meeting app, offers to take notes, and transcribes live while you talk.
  • You hang up. A second, more accurate pass works out who said what, then writes a summary and a title.
  • Afterwards. Recordings and transcripts stay in your Documents folder, and you can translate a transcript when you need to.

Read aloud

Select the text in any app, press control shift, and a natural voice reads it while you do something else.

roof-update.txtSample

Hi all, a quick update on the roof. The contractors start on Monday the 14th and expect to finish by the end of the month, weather permitting. Scaffolding goes up on the east side first, so the bike shed will be closed for the first week. If you need to get to it, ask at the front desk and someone will open the side gate. The water will also be off between nine and eleven on Tuesday morning.

Or select some of it and press control shift. The button plays a sample voice, and only when you press it; reading your own selection is silent here.

  • Your pick of voice. Choose one you like and set how fast it talks.
  • An off switch. Press esc, or the same two keys again.

What Vord needs

The fine print, at normal size, where you can see it:

  • A Mac. macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon or Intel. There is no Windows, iPhone or Android version.
  • Four permissions. Microphone, Accessibility, Input Monitoring, and Screen & System Audio Recording. The last one is how Vord hears the other side of a call.
  • An internet connection. Speech is processed by cloud services, so Vord does not work offline. Vord's own servers keep no audio and no words.

Download Vord

Install it, grant the four permissions, then hold fn and say something.
